I have also read that lower value resistors could have been a solution too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33188040.post-19705223888007239872009-03-09T15:08:00.000-04:002009-03-09T15:08:00.000-04:00Hello,When you read the ratings of a power supply,...Hello,

When you read the ratings of a power supply, the amps mean how much current it can give at its max. So, although 1 amp is a lot of current for a toy, the toy will only use as much current as it needs. So you should not have any problems.

A problem could arise if you use it for something that consumes more than 1 amp. In that case (when the power supply is asked for more than what it can give), your power supply could burn, melt, shut down, or provide less voltage than it should. In short, it will fail in some way or another.

Also, make sure your power supply provides DC current (it may sound silly, but I've done that mistake before).

Cheers and good luck.Carloshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04885316828311545403noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33188040.post-37053495426005144052009-03-09T13:38:00.000-04:002009-03-09T13:38:00.000-04:00Just a quick question on the power supply, just by...Just a quick question on the power supply, just by looking at your pics I believe that my helicopter is the same model you have. I have a found a power supply that is 9 volts and 1 Amp. Will the Amps be ok or is that too much for the electronis in the toy?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33188040.post-76657874606161106292009-02-25T21:58:00.000-05:002009-02-25T21:58:00.000-05:00Hey Carlos,Thanks for the blog and video. I actually tried to use a shift register and it works well (but I have never tested it on a bicycle wheel). The key is to make sure you can update the LEDs fast enough. By using the fact that you are shifting 8 bits at 20 MHz (the arduino clock frequency), the maximum speed of your bike wheel (<50 Km/h I would say) the number of updates you need to do in one turn and the wheel diameter, you can compute the update frequency.

Also, shift registers are hugely useful in pretty much every project so even if you don't end up using them, they won't be wasted.

I use this shift register just in case you are wondering. Good luck with your project.Carloshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04885316828311545403noreply@blogger.com
